BEHIND THE NAME
Cablevision Systems Corp. was formed in 1954 as Sterling Manhattan Cable, a division of Time Inc. The company became independent in the 1970s and was eventually renamed. Cablevision had 3.4 million broadband subscribers as of the third quarter 2009.
